What is the origin of IBPS?
All the bank that existed way back in the 1990s, were nationalized in the year 1969 and soon after they are required to expand their network and thus the number of the branches which required more staff which could be filled through fresh recruitment drives and doing that on a large network scale needed a proper framework and bodywork and an effective selection process.
Thus, the national institute of bank management the only topmost organization that existed then, which was converted into the IBPS in 1984.
Recruitment process of IBPS
For 5 years, IBPS carries out examination for IBPS PO, IBPS clerk, assistant officer, IBPS specialist officer positions regularly, following a very disciplined custom for appearing in the exam. The eligibility criteria, subjects for preparation, selection criteria; nothing has changed for years except the paper pattern of examination which keeps on changing sometimes.
IBPS notifies about its each upcoming exams for vacancies via pushing notifications on its original website and calls aspirants for applications. Each year against 70000 (around) vacant positions, approximately 20 lakh applications are received.
The IBPS call letters of applicants are uploaded on the website just a few days before the examination date from where the students can easily download by providing their credentials.
The cut-offs, sectional wise and as a whole are updated automatically on the site, students just have to keep themselves updated by regularly serving the website for knowing the exam results.
The recruitment process of IBPS for any position exam is enclosed into 3 phases-
- Prelims
- Mains
- Interview
- The prelims exam is conducted for an hour for only 3 subjects- English, reasoning and quantitative aptitude. The obtained number of marks is done against 100 marks. on every wrong answer, there is a criterion to deduct ¼ marks on them which is known as a rule of negative marking. The candidates who pass the pre-examination are shortlisted for the next exam i.e. main exam.
- The main-examination is the success key holder for every appearing aspirant. It is projected on 5 subjects of 200 marks in total, out of which candidate has to score not only the standard cut-off as a whole but sectional cut-offs as well. That way, it is very must to take care of available limited time i.e. 2 hours total. It also follows a negative marking phenomenon.
- The final stair towards success is named as IBPS Interview section. The student who will clear pre- and mains are called for an interview and then he is provided his deserving position inside the appropriate bank niche.
IBPS PO Full Form
IBPS PO: IBPS Probationary Officer
IBPS PO is the person who remains under probation period for 2 years. Generally, he is appointed in the cadre of manager but to let the person trained in every banking phenomenon, he is placed under training which is known as probation trainee.
The probationer officer is provided the roles of every key responsibilities, like handling the cash transactions, preparing the end reports of every banking logs at every end of the day, dealing with customers, passing cheque, promoting the bank’s new products or policies and achieving the given tasks provided by the bank’s superior authorities. He sometimes has to take into hand the responsibilities of the clerk also.
As PO is the high designation job, so the person in this position has to take care of the jobs below his level and also the above levels too. You can say that being a manager of the bank is not an easy task. He has to be knowledgeable on every ground associated with banking operations and executes his every responsibility with full effectiveness and efficiency so that to promote his bank goodwill.
IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria:
As per the new notification released by IBPS for the PO examination, there is no change in the eligibility criteria for 2020 recruitment.
- Age limit: Minimum 20 years & Maximum 30 years as on 01.07.2020
- Educational Qualifications: Should be Graduate from a recognized university/ Institution. No minimum % required.
Age relaxation would be provided in following ways-
- SC/ST- 5years
- Other backward classes/ non creamy layer -3years
Ex-servicemen, commissioned officers including emergency CO or SSCOs who have rendered at least 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within 1 year from the last date of receipt of application) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency or physical disability attributable to military service or invalided 5 years.

- Educational Qualification:
A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Government. Of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.
Computer Literacy: Operating and working knowledge in computer systems is mandatory i.e. candidates should have Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations/Language/ should have studied Computer / Information Technology as one of the subjects in the High School/College/Institute.
Proficiency in the Official Language of the State/ UT (candidates should know how to read/ write and speak the Official Language of the State/UT) for which vacancies a candidate wishes to apply is preferable. (Some questions may be put at the time of interview to ascertain the candidate’s familiarity with the Official Language of the State/UT).
